A man who weighs 560lbs. is working to get back in shape by biking across the country.

Eric Hites left from Falmouth, Massachusetts the first week of June, and is now in Tiverton, Rhode Island dealing with a minor setback after he bent one of his bike rims.

That is currently being fixed as Hites camps out waiting, and as soon as he has it back he will set off once again on his trip.

Hites, who hails from Danville, Indiana, told NBC 10 that it was a recent string of major setbacks in his life that motivated him to complete this ride - losing his wife and his job because of his weight.

And so he bought a bike and mapped out a route and prepared himself to hit the road.

'I had first guessed four months, but at my current speed, it could take the rest of the year,' Hites said of his trip time.

He is also writing about his experience, and looking for sponsors, on a site he has created for his trek - Fat Guy Across America

And while he writes on the site that he is doing this for his wife more than anything, it is also for his health.

'You don't have to end up on My 600 Pound Life,' said Hites.

'You can just do it yourself. Skip gastric bypass and do it on your own.'

As for what might happen if he cannot get his bike back and fized, Hittes said; 'I'm hooking up a rope to my trailer and making a harness and I'm just going to start pulling it until I can find a sponsor.

'Because I can't stop, I got to keep moving.'
